Foundation → Practitioner → Mastery

Make the recommendation.
Defend the judgement.

Turn business knowledge into useful recommendations, confident conversations and reliable follow-through.

Build on Foundation with a shared core that works across business functions. Practise with a cleaning tender, a Software as a Service (SaaS) productivity-platform trial and two-year deal, customer communications, stationery supply and staff induction.

Two practical commercial cases

A cleaning tender

Compare three-site cleaning bids on the same scope, test exclusions and service quality, negotiate the package and plan the handover.

A small SaaS platform

Negotiate a short proof of concept (PoC)—a trial against agreed success criteria—for productivity tools, then a two-year deal with annual payments. Replace the vendor’s proposed 7% uplift with a defined Consumer Price Index (CPI) adjustment using data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and cost licence growth from 100 to 120 people.

Fictional prices and illustrative CPI figures are used for learning.

What you will practise

Four capabilities.
One joined-up decision.

Each module combines worked cases, quick checks, a practical brief and a scored challenge.

01 · Commercial Acumen

Deciding in the Room. Allow about 35 minutes including practice.

  1. From understanding to recommending
  2. Instinct: a starting signal
  3. The speed and accuracy test
  4. A cheaper rate. A larger bill.
  5. Analyse the question that matters
  6. Make a recommendation that travels

Your output: A recommendation that travels.

02 · Stakeholder Influence & Business Partnering

Alignment that improves the decision. Allow about 35 minutes including practice.

  1. Start with the outcome, not your function
  2. Map interests, influence and decision rights
  3. Influence with a useful trade-off
  4. Challenge, escalate and preserve trust
  5. Case: the eight-week staff induction

Your output: A stakeholder and action plan.

03 · Finance for Commercial Decisions

Numbers that support the recommendation. Allow about 40 minutes including practice.

  1. Separate price, cost, cash and benefit
  2. Build a baseline you can explain
  3. Compare options over a common horizon
  4. Test ranges and cash exposure
  5. Case: cost a SaaS deal from 100 to 120 users

Your output: A SaaS cost and approval brief.

04 · Negotiation & Commercial Trade-offs

Improve the whole package. Allow about 35 minutes including practice.

  1. Prepare the package, not just the price
  2. Discover interests without giving away the decision
  3. Case: negotiate a SaaS trial and two-year deal
  4. Case: compare and negotiate a cleaning tender
  5. Close clearly and hand over the commitment

Your output: A cleaning tender recommendation and negotiation brief.

05 · Integrated Capstone

The PLAYCO customer-pack decision. Allow about 35 minutes including practice.

  1. The PLAYCO customer-pack renewal
  2. Build the comparison and stakeholder plan
  3. Negotiate and recommend proportionately
  4. Submit your decision brief

Your output: Your integrated decision brief.

  • A cleaning tender comparison, negotiation brief and service handover.
  • An integrated PLAYCO decision brief.

How completion works

Learn. Apply. Review.

Complete the 25 lesson checks, write and self-review the five briefs, and pass each module challenge at 80% or better. The final case opens after the four core modules are complete.

On completion, enter your name for your Professional Practitioner certificate and download your eight-page PDF playbook, with worked examples, checklists and reusable templates. Your personal workbook is available as you learn. Written briefs are self-reviewed against worked responses and criteria, not externally marked.

The certificate records professional development, not an accredited qualification. Progress and notes stay in the same browser and device; keep your downloads for your records.

Optional specialist tracks

Build the core.
Apply it to your role.

Choose from five tracks after the shared core: Indirect Procurement, Commercial Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Project Coordination & Delivery, and Business Analysis & Process Improvement. Each track adds six lessons, working notes, a practical brief and a six-question assessment.
